History

JSC "Kharkov Kosior Machine-Tool Building Plant" (Kharverst) is one of the largest manufactures of roll and circular grinders.

The enterprise was put into operation in January 1936. In 2006, the plant celebrated its 70th anniversary. History of plant creation dated from the first five-year plans, when the question about lack of native metal cutting equipment arose sharply during the intensive industry development.

In Soviet times, the plant had leading positions among the machine-tool enterprises of the country. Its product had wide recognition not only in the USSR, but also outside the country. The enterprise was fairly proud and is proud not only of the unique and needed product, but also of “golden” staff.

In 2001, JSC “Kharkov Kosior Machine-Tool Building Plant” became a part of the industrial group UPEC; after this event, new phase of development began.

Nowadays, “Kharverst” is a quickly developing enterprise of Ukraine that belongs to top ten of the largest machine-tool enterprises of CIS and has significant industrial potential. It produces traditional types of product, and it also masters new modern models of circular grinding machine that correspond to world standards.

Specialization

The enterprise focuses on production of equipment for metallurgical plants, enterprises of heavy and middle engineering, engine building, shipbuilding, and also for light, food, automotive, tractor-building, and bearing industries.

The uniqueness of the plant is determined by wide nomenclature and technical complexity of produced equipment. The machine tools that are produced by Kharkov machine-tool plant are applied almost in all industries. For 70 years of plant operation, there were produced more than 90 thousand equipment items, more than 600 different models, many of them are unique and produced only at Kharkov machine-tool plant.

For recent 5 years, new direction of plant development was renovation, modernization, and also production of new models for the enterprises of bearing industry. At the present moment, more than 180 items of different machine tool models for bearing industry are modernized. During modernization, new technological and design solutions were being applied; up-to-date components for relay ladder logic system, hydraulics, control systems, drives with numerical program control, control devices (production of world firm-manufactures Siemens, Mitsubishi, Schmidt, Baluff) were used in this process.

Currently, the plant works with leading industrial enterprises (metallurgy, automotive industry, engine building) and produces machine tools, many of which are unique (they are also individually worked out according to customer requirements).

The plant strategy is formulated in the conception of enterprise development for 2007-2009; its aim is to strength positions on the market of grinding machine tools and to offer a customer the competitive technical equipment that corresponds to the best world patterns.

Production facilities

The enterprise produces the wide range of grinding machine tools:

• all-purpose circular grinding semiautomatic machines;
• circular grinding semiautomatic machines for general application;
• special angled wheelhead automatic grinders and semiautomatic machines with numerical control programs;
• heavy circular grinding and roll-grinding machines;
• numerically controlled machines applied for treatment of distributive cams and crank shaft spindles;
• special circular grinding automatic machines and semiautomatic machines for treatment of bearing rings;
• special semiautomatic numerically controlled machines for treatment of drilling bit leg axle ways;
• other special circular grinders.

The whole range of machine tools produced by Kharkov machine-tool plant can be divided into three main groups:

The first group – roll-grinding machines designed for treatment of mill rollers at metallurgical enterprises, weight of which is up to 70 tons, diameter – 2m, and length – up to 12 m.

The second group – the widest range of special technologically flexible machines with numerical program control for the enterprises that are oriented on large-scale and mass production.

The third group – batch-produced machines applied in all industries.

Recognition of quality

In 2006, the quality management system (corresponds to requirements of international standard ISO-9001) was implemented. The produced equipment will be delivered to 41 countries, including Russia, Belarus, the USA, Italy, France, Belgium, Japan, China, India, Great Britain and other.

New activities

Nowadays, JSC “Kharkov Kosior Machine-Tool Building Plant” is working out grinding equipment of new generation that will be used in production of large-size bearings. The customer of new design is “Kharkov Bearing Plant” that is a part of the industrial group UPEC; due to this step, it strengthens own positions as the supplier of railway bearings. Designing is carried out very quickly, production of basic models must be completed by the end of 2007, and in 2008, they are going to launch mass production of new machines. “Kharverst” is expected to produce not less than 12-16 items of such equipment daily. In such way, Kharkov machine-tool plant will widen its nomenclature of grinding equipment with machines for high accuracy treatment of large-size bearings (diameter up to 400mm).
